Update 1
The game has been coming together, Giana, Ralph, Ista, and Wenjie have been working on putting together the main aspect of the game. It’s been a hectic few with, but with all the craziness going on we have been able to meet two times outside of class to work on the game. We were able to come up with the games different categories and what people will need to be searching in order for the best choice to win.
We started off by thinking of a theme for the website and for our game. We at first picked a more gloomy type of layout for our game, thinking it could be something serious. After some thought, we decided it might be more creative to make it pop out and look more fun. We then were thinking maybe neon colors and white letters that pop out at you, grabbing your attention. Here are the before and after shots of our website:

Card Making: Ista and Giana have been putting together the cards for the game, trying to think of designs to use on the cards. Meanwhile, Wenjie has been putting together our Twine game to link up with our category cards. Ralph has been focusing on the website and also with Wenjie on Twine. In the meetings we have been coming together to talk about what we have worked on and then making inputs from there.
Ista was able to go to Staples and get some cardstock (thicker paper) which we will laminate and cut into squares, these cards will be the way we keep track of points for each player. We are still deciding on the amount of cards a player has to get in order to win.

Update 2
We have come up with a prototype to bring to class and see what classmates think of our game, and from there we are hoping to expand the sub categories and finalize the card making. There is still much to be done but we are aiming towards making a fun interactive final project that is more creative than your average Cards Against Humanity game.
Our goal is to make a game where everyone is able to interact with each other while using different media platforms. It can be funny or serious, but it’s a way to bring people together with different ideas.
Thinking up categories has been a tricky thing for the team, Ista has been putting in some creative ideas to help make the game interactive and understandable.
Game designing, card making and twine typing are going as planned. In the game “End of Phrase”, there are three categories for choosing to begin the game play--- Photos, Movie Titles and Song Titles, there is a set role as the judge who will be responsible for picking the category and voting in the late game. By linking one google doc to the twine page it will allow players to anonymously post their answer for each different category for later voting. The other players (usually 5 include judger) would search for the interesting pictures or materials based on the phrases on the card which they picked under that category randomly. Then all of them need to publish their own on that google doc. Judge will choose the one he/she thinks it’s attractive and interesting, and that player will earn the card. After all runs done, the one earns most cards wins. This game is designed for creativity and joy, especially for the player who act as a judger. During this game, at least one smartphone or laptop is required, the judger will have it when the game is going. The rest players can play with the physical cards which are refined by creators. In addition, keeping updating information to the websites, there are three sections have already published --- “story”, “creators”, “making of the game”.

Update 3
The feedback we’ve received on the game has really helped us - so thanks to you all! We are trying to incorporate a way to make our cards spell out something clever at the end that will make sense. We are going to incorporate a timer and narrowing down searches into specific genres per category. For example, horror movies, or rap songs only. We’ve also really been focusing on the cards and how we are going to do the layout for the game.
Wenjie has been fixing up the Twine site, and we are now trying to put some fun images in there to interact with. We are putting the symbol you get (boombox, microphone, etc) as the options, which lead you to the phrase you have to finish.

Ista and Giana are doing the more artsy role for the game, they are heading to Michael’s to get a wood board that we can set the cards on, and write END OF PHRASE at the bottom (just to have a little fun!) the board will be painted, along with our triangle the judge has to toss to determine what category they will pick. Pictures to come!

Giana and Ista are going to make a small board the judge is able to put the cards on. Where we will put “end of phrase” at the bottom (just trying to be creative!). Now we have broken down the categories: Photos, Movies, and Songs. The cards are going to have our logo on the top, and then the subject on the back side, which the judge will draw depending which category they like.

Update 4
And the game is complete! Our final design ended up being a box that held the cards, and we made 15 cards (blue, pink, and yellow). The box was colored the same theme, and we laminated the cards so they could last longer than just card stock paper. That was the physical part, and then we used a Twine website for the digital part, where you match the symbol you get on the card to see what your phrase is. Everything turned out great, after each update we would meet up to set new goals on the design and objective of the game, which lead us to this final product.
You are more than able to make this game yourself at home!! A box is not required, but it makes keeping the cards together easier. We encourage you to pick your own phrases, and even create your own categories! But if you like what we have already made, you can make the cards (even hand draw them!) and the game will come together! We put some pictures up from the design process so you get an idea of it.
Our goals of this game was engaging every player evenly through playing. During the game playing, we can see different players’ mind based on the pictures they picked. It is always interesting to see the different opinions crash together. Based on the same phrase, the answer players can pick is unlimited which leads to unlimited possibilities. The results are worth for a laugh, and this game brings every players together.
We changed the choices of our categories for several times during making this game since we want to make it not too hard for players to pick their answers. At beginning, we had idea about making some limits such as the search range and tools, then we changed our idea. We decided to do the picture things instead, because pictures are both interesting and vividly based on our game. For most players to engage, we finally picked Movie Title, Song Title and Photograph as our categories. And instead of words typing on Twine, insert some icons and pictures would be more attractive. In this case, we make icons and photoshops which relate with our theme “90’s game”. With the same reason, we designed our website in the same way. We read the feedback of our classmates after our first presentation, and we decided to shorten the game process from 5 points to 3 points in order to let more people enjoy our game much quicker.
The interactions we were going for was to have each player use their mobile device at the same time on the same website, where they put their answers and then everyone playing the game is able to see the answers. Normally, in Cards Against Humanity, you only know what the cards say once the judge reads them out loud, but with our game you are able to read it right as the players put in their answers. Our theme was comedy - and this was to make our interaction with the players a fun experience, and letting them expand their creative minds.
The work was split up with different roles. Wenjie put together the Twine website which turned out amazing! In one of our meetings we helped him with designing the symbols for the cards to put onto Twine so they would match perfectly. And then Ralph was a big part of that too by being the main designer - having access to the website and making all of our images for the cards which I think added nicely to our theme of a fun neon 90’s look. We all were really happy with how it turned out. But before it was finished, we were meeting as much as we could to make improvements on the game each time. I think we were discouraged at first not knowing how we could really put this game together in an interactive way but towards the end we worked it out. Ista and Giana were doing the physical design of the game and making the phrases along with the categories! With all of us working on these roles, we created the final product which we are all so happy with.
